The United States (US) has commended the Nigerian government for its strong commitment to expediting trials of suspects linked to terrorism and other related crimes.
The US commended Nigerian authorities for the convictions of 386 Islamist militants, in a Sunday statement posted on X by Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the United States President, on Arab and African Affairs.
According to the statement, the US recognises the process as an important step towards accountability and justice.
The statement reads, “The United States commends the Nigerian government for its strong commitment to expediting trials addressing terrorism and related crimes.
“We welcome the convictions of 386 Islamist militants in cases that had previously faced significant delays in the courts, and we recognise this as an important step toward accountability and justice.”

“Upholding the rule of law remains essential to ensuring the safety, stability, and long-term security of all Nigerians, and we support continued efforts to strengthen judicial efficiency and fairness across the country,” he concluded.
TVC News previously reported that a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced several individuals linked to Boko Haram and its splinter groups to various prison terms, as part of ongoing mass terrorism trials initiated by the Federal Government.
The sentences range from 10 to 40 years, with some of the convicts also ordered to undergo rehabilitation and de-radicalisation.
Nigeria continues to confront persistent terrorism threats, particularly in the North-East, with authorities intensifying efforts to prosecute suspects through special court sessions set up within the Federal High Court.

The ongoing trials, coordinated by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, are part of a broader strategy to fast-track terrorism-related cases and strengthen accountability.
