A faction of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institution has accused its leaders of misappropriating monies and refusal to tolerate opposing views.

They also blame the Central committee for the split in the union.

Habidah lawal reports that the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions has threatened the leadership of the union with legal action, on grounds of embezzlement of funds and misrepresentation.

The group said that although its constitution requires National Executive Council meetings be held every four months, it says none has taken place for over a four year period which would have been an avenue to air all grievances.

Chairman of the Electronics Development Institute branch ASURI, Oluwaseyi Ogungbenro backed by 30 branches of the union, said the national leadership of the union is skewed by maladministration.

The group also reveals it has engaged in various discussions with the national body of the union, but none has yielded any results

It said it is left with no other option than to seek redress using all available legal means provided by the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria and extant Labour laws.
