The U.S. government has reminded all U.S. citizens, including dual nationals and children, that they are legally required to enter and leave the United States using a valid U.S. passport.
Authorities warned that dual U.S. citizens cannot use a foreign passport to apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), noting that the Department of Homeland Security routinely denies or cancels ESTA applications submitted by U.S. citizens with dual nationality.
Americans living abroad who plan to travel to the United States are advised to ensure their U.S. passports are valid before departure.
