Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and arrested three alleged informants during a counter-kidnapping operation in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, code-named Operation PEACE SHIELD, followed credible intelligence received on 15 December 2025 about an attempted kidnapping in the Dong community.

According to the Task Force, troops swiftly responded to the distress report and engaged the kidnappers on arrival, forcing them to abandon their initial target and flee the area.

While retreating, the suspects reportedly diverted to a neighbouring community, where they abducted four persons. Troops immediately mobilised in pursuit and engaged the criminals in a firefight, during which one of the kidnappers was neutralised.

Items recovered from the suspect included one AK-47 rifle, a magazine and four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Three suspected informants believed to be aiding the criminal network were also arrested during the operation.

Security forces said efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend other members of the gang.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Plateau State and across the Joint Operations Area, assuring residents that troops remain vigilant and determined to sustain peace and security.
