A Collaborative effort between the states and federal government is needed to resolve the flood crisis in Lagos/Ogun boundary community.
That’s according to the Commissioner of Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, during an inspection visit of the areas affected by release of water from Oyan Dam.
He said the government will consider other measures to limit the impact on the affected communities.
The sudden floodwaters caught many residents along the Ogun River by surprise, compelling them to evacuate their homes in search of shelter.
Following the widespread devastation caused by the flood, officials from the Lagos State ministry of Environment, conducted an on-site assessments in the affected areas.
During the inspection, residents expressed their pain and frustration at the perennial flood to the officials.
Commissioner for the environment in Lagos for his part, said that Lagos, Ogun, and the federal government need to work together to fix this issue for good.
Meanwhile, residents have been advised against building on flood plains, as preventive measures are being planned by those in authority to avoid a recurrence of the challenging situation.
