The Nigeria Super Eagles produced a commanding performance to rout Mozambique 4–0 in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 on Monday night, booking their place in the tournament’s quarter-finals with one of their most dominant displays in Morocco.

Nigeria opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Ademola Lookman, whose well-taken effort set the tone.

Victor Osimhen then doubled the lead before half-time and added a second early in the second half, while Akor Adams rounded off the victory in the 75th minute.

The emphatic result produced several notable records and statistical highlights for the Super Eagles:

  • Tournament’s Largest Winning Margin So Far: Nigeria’s four-goal victory stands as the biggest scoreline in the 2025 AFCON to date, making them the first side in this edition to score four goals in a single match.

  • Most Goals Scored in the Tournament: With this win, the Super Eagles have now tallied 12 goals in four matches, the highest for any team at this stage in the tournament, maintaining their perfect record with four wins from four.

  • Clean Sheet Breakthrough: Nigeria kept their first clean sheet of the tournament in this match while showcasing a ruthlessly efficient attack.

  • Extended Scoring Streak: The side has now scored in every AFCON match they have played this decade, continuing a strong tradition of finding the net consistently.

The win also highlights the growing synergy between Osimhen and Lookman, both of whom now feature prominently in the scoring charts and attacking statistics for the tournament.

Mozambique, competing in the knockout stages of AFCON for the first time, offered spirited resistance but were ultimately outclassed in Fes.

Nigeria will now prepare to face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter-finals as they pursue a fourth continental title and continue to rewrite their AFCON campaign book.
