TheKatsina state government, in conjunction with JIBWIS, has held a two-day sensitization seminar for imams and other Islamic scholars to remind them of their role in promoting peace and harmony as the 2023 general election draws closer.

The efforts by the state government to results of the training is expected to filter down to the grassroots educating people on their roles in ensuring the success of the 2023 elections.

TVC News reports that the seminar was attended by over 100 imams and revered scholars.

As would be expected in a gathering like this, scholars under the Izala sect took time to review issues on how religious groups could guide and encourage their members to participate in the general.

The need for religious sects to caution their followers during campaigns and election periods was strongly stressed

Religious leaders were also reminded that electing credible leaders, was key to addressing insecurity and the economic hardships being faced.

“The objective of this gathering is to remind our scholars to reach out on the need to guide the people based on trust for them to engage in good conduct during the elections and observe peace at all costs.

We also want to use the period to offer special prayers across the board for God to guide us and give us credible leaders.

It is expected that the lessons learned here will be propagated through the popular Friday sermons and periodic preaching sessions”.

The state government on its part reassured the public of its resolve to ensure hitch-free polls in the coming year.

The impact of meetings like this can be far-reaching especially now the campaign activities have started with lots of expectations on whoever will emerge in various seats being contested.

The contributions of groups like JIBWIS in appealing to their members and followers to prevent a breakdown of Law and Order in the period leading to the 2023 Elections, during the Elections and in preventing Post Election violence cannot be over-emphasised.
