Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, says it is imperative that Nigeria prioritises youth empowerment to  drive socio-economic progress and self-reliance while reducing the tendency for restiveness.

He spoke at the 10th-year remembrance anniversary of former Plateau state Governor, Solomon Lar which coincided with the empowerment of over 200 youths in leadership training.

Wednesday, October 9, 2013 remains indelible in the history of Plateau state and in the life  of the Lar family.

It was a day its the former Governor of the state and the pioneer National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Solomon Lar, bid the world farewell.

The patriarch of the Lar family died at the age of 80.

Ten years on, the family says it will continue to build on Solomon Lar’s enduring legacy, particularly in his love for peace, unity and love among the citizens.

This is the essence of the leadership and digital literacy training exercise for youths aged between 18 and 35.

Youthful speakers are brought to inspire the participants.

They advise the youths to pay attention to details in all that they learn and do.

While they call on the nation’s leaders to lead aright, the speakers say military incursion not an option to democratic governance.

With a staggering youth population of over 134 million, Nigeria holds the third position globally in terms of having the most youthful population, coming after only India and China.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, says the demographic statistics presents an opportunity for development and also a challenge, depending on the nation’s approach to harnessing their potentials.

The youths received training in Cyber security, Web design, Use of Artificial intelligence and Entrepreneurship tips.
