President Buhari Swears in Justice Ariwoola as CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has performed the Swearing In of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The President performed the swearing-in ceremony, shortly briefly before the commencement of the week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The Swearing In of Justice Olukayode Arwoola was witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as well as Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the home State of the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, and Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the Chairman of the Southwest Governors Forum.

Also seated as witnesses to the ceremony were other Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd).

Others were Ministers attending the week’s Council meeting, including Hadi Sirika (Aviation); Olorunnimbe Mamora (Science, Technology and Innovation); Chris Ngige (Labour and Employment); Abubakar Malami (Attorney-General and Justice); Niyi Adebayo (Industry, Trade and Investment); Babatunde Raji Fashola another Senior Advocate of Nigeria (Works and Housing); Abubakar Aliyu, and others.

The new Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Tajudeen Oluwakayode Ariwoola was born on the 22nd of August 1954 in Iseyin Oyo State.

He attended the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University formerly University of Ife in Osun State for his Bachelors of Law degree and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1981.

He was appointed into the Oyo State Judiciary as Judge in 1989 and has since been moving up the ladder before his appointment into the Court of Appeal in 2005, he served in the Enugu, Kaduna and Lagos divisions of the Court of Appeal until 2011 when he was elevated to the Supreme Court.

He was Sworn in as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria on 27th of June after the resignation of the Former Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Tanko Muhammed before his confirmation by the National Assembly in September.

He has now been Sworn in as the 18th substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.
