The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued three victims during a robbery attack in the Zone E Extension area of Apo Resettlement, Abuja.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, police operatives responded swiftly to a distress call and engaged the armed attackers in a gun battle, rescuing three individuals with varying degrees of injuries.

The victims were immediately taken to Sahad Hospital, Apo Resettlement, for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, one of them later succumbed to his injuries and was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

His body has been deposited at the hospital morgue.

“Following a distress call from a commercial motorcyclist reporting gunfire in the area, the Divisional Police Officer of Apo Division, CSP Uchenna Igwebuike, mobilised his Ambush and Surveillance Teams to the scene,” the statement read.

The suspects reportedly opened fire on the police team, prompting a reinforcement led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Isyaku Sharu. The police responded with superior firepower, forcing the gunmen to flee into the surrounding hills.

A light green Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 620 AU, belonging to one of the victims, was recovered at the scene.

A joint manhunt by the police and local vigilantes is currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safety and security across the Territory.

He also urged members of the public, especially residents of Apo Resettlement and surrounding areas, to report anyone with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
