The Ondo State Police Command has disrupted a suspected cult gathering in Akungba Akoko, arresting five individuals linked to alleged cult activities.

According to a Sunday statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the operation was carried out by the Command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad following credible intelligence from members of the public.

The police said the suspects were apprehended on March 27, 2026, at a residential building where they had reportedly converged for a secret meeting.

The individuals were alleged to be chanting cult-related slogans and engaging in activities considered a threat to public safety.

Those arrested were identified as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele, and Akeju Idowu.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicate that the suspects are members of the Eiye Confraternity, a group associated with violent crimes and unlawful gatherings.

The Command noted that the suspects are currently in custody and have provided useful information aiding ongoing investigations. Efforts are also underway to track other members of the group and prevent any planned criminal activities.

Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the swift response of the operatives and the role of residents who provided timely information, emphasising the importance of community collaboration in crime prevention.

He reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism and other criminal acts, assuring residents of sustained intelligence-driven operations to ensure safety across the state.

The police added that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
