The Kano State Police Command has arrested 51 suspected thugs and recovered weapons and drugs during a major three-day crackdown on crime in the city.
The operations, which were carried out from Friday, 13 June to Sunday, 15 June 2025, targeted criminal hideouts across key areas in the metropolitan LGAs of Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale and Tarauni — including Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro and Sheka.
State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said the raids were part of the Command’s ongoing drive to combat urban violence, dismantle cult-like groups and restore peace in affected communities.
Some suspects, known by aliases such as “Shamakin”, “Semigo”, “Maibobo” and “Maitakalmi”, were amongst those arrested. Items recovered include machetes, locally made weapons and hard drugs.
The Commissioner condemned the public display of weapons under the guise of traditional events and the glorification of violence on social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook and Instagram — which, he said, encouraged young people to become involved in crime.
He called on parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children’s activities and avoid protecting them from justice. Blacksmiths were also warned against making weapons for suspects, with a clear warning that anyone found complicit would face the full force of the law.
The Command pledged to maintain its operations and protect the lives and property of all Kano residents.
