Over nine thousand people with eye related issues in Benue South have benefited from a free community eye care programme initiated by the Governor of Benue State.
The initiative, which was created by the Benue State Government in partnership with Eye Care Services, was launched in Ochi Idoma Square in Otukpo by Governor Hyacinth Alia and took place throughout the zone’s nine local government areas.
Providing health care services to the populace is one of the main goals of the Alia-led government in Benue State.
The less privileged remains the prime target of the Governor as he flags off free community eye care services for the people who couldn’t afford treatment.
For Governor Hyacinth Alia, the aim is to give meaning to the lives of his citizens.
Represented by the Executive Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, the governor says he is deliberate with the initiative with plans on the way to take the programme to other communities of the state.
Otukpo local government chairman, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri sees the programme as a further demonstration of visionary leadership of the Governor to ensure the well-being of his people.
The services covered include free eye test, Cataract Surgery, medical glasses and eye treatments.
