The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) installed more than 187,000 new meters between September and October, as part of ongoing efforts to close the country’s metering gap.
The commission disclosed this in its latest Metering Fact Sheet, published on its website in Abuja on Friday.
According to the report, 80,943 customers were metered in September, while 106,822 new meters were installed in October, resulting in a month-on-month increase that raised the national metering rate from 55.37 per cent to 56.07 per cent.

The number of active electricity customers also saw a slight rise from 12.03 million to 12.07 million during the period, while the total number of metered customers increased from 6.66 million to 6.77 million.

Among the DisCos, Aba Power recorded a significant improvement, raising its metering rate from 69.49 per cent in September to 78.20 per cent in October.
Eko and Ikeja DisCos maintained strong performances, keeping their metering rates above 84 per cent, while Abuja and Ibadan DisCos continued consistent meter installations, contributing to the overall growth in metering numbers.
The report, however, noted that several DisCos remain below the 50 per cent metering threshold.
“DisCos with metering rates below 50 per cent include Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola,” the commission stated, highlighting the need for further improvements in these regions.
