Operators buy in aiding Shippers Council Operation – Jime

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Emmanuel Jime, has described the year 2022 as a challenging and interesting one for the Industry regulator.

He added that Industry operators have begun to embrace its transformation from just a protector of the interest of shippers in Nigeria to an industry and Economic regulator.

He said 2022 has been a year where the buy in of operators within the industry to yield fruits for the industry with collaboration of sister agencies within the maritime sector.

He disclosed that the Shippers Council has been able to get the Cooperation of the Consumer Protection Commission to ensure the protection of operators within the Sector through the introduction of protection regimes.

He said activities within the sector has picked up tremendously and that the Shippers Council is working through the National Fleet Implementation Committee for the resuscitation of the National Fleet which will help operators in the Sector.

He said the Nigerian Shippers Council is doing this to give life to the efforts of the Federal Government to ensure Nigeria truly becomes a shipping nation through the participation of Nigerians owning Ships and participating in Other aspects of the Maritime Industry.

Other initiatives that the Nigerian Shippers Council is working on according to Mr Jime includes the development of Dry Ports, effective Supervision of the implementation of the Nigerian Posts Manual and the activities of the Nigerian Ports Standing taskforce.

On the major achievements of the Nigerian Shippers Council within the year, he said the council was able to complete the Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano to completion and has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Customs Service for Operations at the Port.

He said the MOU will ensure that the Dry Ports are up and running.

He added that the Nigerian Export Promotion Council is also involved at the Dry Ports to ensure that their is a Domestic Export Warehouse that will ensure the export of standard goods and products abroad by Nigerian Exporters.
