Onome Didih Wins Commonwealth Games Gold With Three Games Records

Nigeria’s Onome Didih delivered a commanding performance to win the women’s 53kg weightlifting gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, setting three new Games records in the process.

According to Making of Champions, Didih opened her campaign by lifting 93kg in the Snatch, breaking the existing Commonwealth Games record in the discipline.

She followed it up with another record-breaking effort of 113kg in the Clean & Jerk, before finishing with a combined total of 206kg, also a new Commonwealth Games record.

The Nigerian finished comfortably ahead of India’s Gyaneshwari Yadav, who claimed the silver medal with a total lift of 199kg, while Canada’s Rebeka Groulx took bronze with 178kg.

Didih’s victory adds another gold medal to Team Nigeria’s haul at the Commonwealth Games, underlining the country’s continued dominance in weightlifting.
