Uwais made this known at a stakeholders meeting in Akure, Ondo State capital.

At-Risk Children Programme is a Federal Government initiative, designed to address vulnerabilities and multidimensional poverty in Nigeria.

It is set-up with the vision of addressing social and economic concerns of children at risk, thereby providing them with a life of comfort and dignity.

At a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, Ondo State capital, which was attended by local government chairmen, representatives of non-governmental organisations among others, the Senior Special Assistant to President on Social Investment, Mariam Uwais said President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to take many children out of the streets.

Uwais said the programme will build capacity in the state, through community-based youth facilitators, drawn from the eighteen local government areas of the state.

Wife of the State Governor, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Bunmi Osadahun said the initiative will impact lives of vulnerable children and complement efforts of the state government in eradicating poverty.

Earlier, the state government had inaugurated the Project Advisory Committee on At-Risk Children Programme.

The State Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who inaugurated the programme, commended President Buhari for setting-up such impactful project.

Already, seven states across the country have keyed into the programme, and it is hoped that the collaboration will bring the desired transformation to people’s lives.
