Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has officially announced his intention to contest the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Speaking to TVC news shortly after the burial of his predecessor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa affirmed his decision to vie for the state’s top position.

Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office on December 27, 2023, following the demise of Akeredolu after a prolonged illness, expressed his intention to participate in the November 16 governorship polls. He emphasised that no one desires to serve as governor for just one year and stressed the importance of utilizing the opportunity provided by the constitution.

Reflecting on the burial ceremony of his predecessor, held at his country home in Owo, Aiyedatiwa conveyed his condolences amidst the somber atmosphere. However, he remained resolute in his determination to seek reelection, highlighting the significance of continuity and stability in governance.

Asserting his commitment to serving the people of Ondo State, Aiyedatiwa underscored the need for a full term to effectively implement policies and initiatives aimed at advancing the state’s development agenda.

“Definitely I will be running because I am already a sitting Governor, and let me say this that nobody wants to be governor for one year. Give me what the constitution allows me to do. At least let me have a chance of also running for one more term.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead and requested the support of the electorate in his bid for reelection.
