The 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season kicked off with an exciting first matchday filled with goals and intense moments across nine venues nationwide.

At the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, defending champions Bayelsa Queens secured a thrilling 3–2 victory over Edo Queens. Janet Seimenya, the league’s top striker, scored a crucial goal to help seal the win for Bayelsa Queens. Edo Queens took the early lead, but Bayelsa responded quickly, leveling the score before halftime. The teams traded goals in the second half, with the match ultimately decided by a stoppage-time winner from Blessing Ilivieda, delivering an exhilarating finish.

Elsewhere, Adamawa Queens opened their campaign strongly with a 2–0 win against newcomers Pacesetter Queens in Makurdi. Ifeoma Damian and Mary Sunday were the goal scorers for Adamawa.

Heartland Queens showed great resilience in Owerri, overturning an early deficit to beat Ekiti Queens 2–1, thanks to second-half goals from Chizoba Johnson and Emmanuella James.

In Abuja, Naija Ratels and Ibom Angels played to a goalless draw despite the home side’s control of possession.

Last season’s runners-up, Nasarawa Amazons, began their title challenge with a 2–1 comeback win over Dannaz Ladies, overcoming an initial goal by the visitors.

In Iyamho, Abia Angels and Confluence Queens shared the points in a 2–2 draw, with goals coming from both sides in a closely contested match.

FC Robo Queens secured a narrow 1–0 away victory over Sunshine Queens in Akure, thanks to a decisive strike from Marvellous Oladuni.

Lagos witnessed a thrilling 3–2 victory for Dannaz Ladies over Osun Babes in a match packed with attacking play and goals from both teams.

Finally, in Umuahia, league newcomers Ahudiyannem Queens were held to a goalless draw by Remo Stars Ladies, rounding off an eventful opening weekend for the league.
