NPFL 2017 : Plateau Utd crowned champions after 2-0 victory over Rangers

Image result for Plateau United crowned champions after 2-0 victory over RangersPlateau United are the new champions of Nigeria Professional Football League following their 2-0 win over Enugu Rangers at Rwang Pam Stadium on Saturday.

The Peace Boys secured their first title since the club was founded in 1975 after gathering 66 points from 38 matches to become 19th Nigeria league champions.

The Kennedy Boboye tutored side scored their goals through Emeka Umeh and second half subsitute Benjamin Turns.

They will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League along with runners-up MFM FC, who lost 2-1 at El Kanemi Warriors.

It was a befitting end to a rather marathon season for the Jos side, who were given a close chase by MFM FC.

They were presented their with their prize after the win over Rangers, with home fans going wild in celebration of their first ever NPFL title.

Aside from the giant trophy they lifted on Saturday, Plateau also pocketed 50m naira for their achievement.

Enyimba missed out on a chance to play in the Caf Champions League, but instead will now feature in Confederation cup after finishing the season 3rd.

The Aba Elephants pipped Katsina United 1-nil.

Shooting Stars of Ibadan and ABS FC joined Gombe United and Remo Stars to be relegated from the top flight, following their defeats to Niger Tornadoes and Nasarawa United.

Akwa United missed out on a top 3 finish despite thrashing Kano Pillars 3-nil.
