The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has expressed concern over the growing trend of lobbying and unofficial appeals directed at the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission by officers seeking special promotions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Force clarified that the recent accelerated promotions granted to select officers were not arbitrary, but part of a structured reward system aimed at recognising exceptional performance, bravery, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
“These officers met the standardised guidelines set by the police leadership for accelerated promotion,” the statement read. “The recent exercise does not signal the start of a general or indiscriminate special promotion scheme.”
The Police also debunked media reports—allegedly sponsored by a particular online platform—claiming that arbitrary promotions were underway. It urged the public to disregard such “baseless and misleading” claims, describing them as an attempt to discredit the integrity of the Force’s promotion process.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and merit, the NPF warned that officers found lobbying for promotions through unofficial channels would face strict disciplinary action.
“Such conduct is unethical, undermines meritocracy and professionalism, and will be met with appropriate sanctions,” the statement added.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its resolve to uphold a promotion process anchored on integrity, verifiable merit, and honourable service to the nation. It urged all officers to remain disciplined and continue performing their duties with pride and dedication.
