The Federal Government has denied reports that it signed a fresh agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa clarified that what is being circulated is only a draft document, not an officially endorsed deal.

The minister mentioned that he had a meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Minister of labour, Solicitor General of the Federation among others and came out with a resolution and draft agreement to be sent to ASUU.

The long-running disagreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities has taken another turn.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa, dismissed claims that the government had signed an agreement with ASUU.

He explained that a seven-man committee, led by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Abel Enitan, has been tasked with preparing a counter-proposal to the union.

The fate of Nigeria’s universities now rests on whether both sides can turn this draft into a workable agreement or slide back into another crisis.
