The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies is the capacity building hub of the National Assembly.

The Institute is hosting a training for selected members of the Liberian Parliament who work directly with the Public Accounts Committee.

They will analyse Nigeria’s model and learn from its successes and setbacks.

It is not the Institute’s first time hosting the Liberian parliament or other sister countries from the region.

The Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Al-Hassan Conteh, highlighted the many collaborative efforts between the two countries and the role played by Nigeria in the history of his country since 1981.

He said the training is to further strengthen Liberia’s democracy

The Public Accounts Committee, according to the Director General and Chief Host of NILDS, is one of the legislative bodies’ powerhouses.

He identified funding, technical capacity, non timely submission of reports by the Auditor General and non implementation of recommendations as some of the challenges facing the Committee.

The public accounts committee of the parliament is charged with the responsibility of overseeing the administration of public funds and ensure accountability in government spending. It’s role is to assist the legislative in holding government to account for its use of public funds and resources by examining public accounts.
