The Nigerian Air Force has provided free medical outreach to more than 100 internally displaced persons in various IDP camps in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
Our Correspondent reports that Internally displaced persons were seen lying down on the hospital beds at the 105 Composite Group, Nigerian Airforce Base Hospital in Maiduguri, awaiting surgery to be performed on them by Nigerian Air Force specialist surgeons who arrived Maiduguri for a two week free medical outreach.
It’s a rare opportunity for them as their ailments would have warranted them spending huge sums of money. Now they are getting Medicare for free.
Head of the team, Group captain Ali Tanko, said it was a directive by the Air chief, Air Marshal Sadique for them to come to Maiduguri.
Speaking shortly after receiving treatment, one of the beneficiaries, Chari fandanmi, who spoke in Hausa said: “I just had an operation, this sickness I had been moving about with it for years. God helped me , they found me and they promised me I will be okay and today I am okay. I want this to be extended to our community where peace is needed. I want to thank these people, I feel fine now no more pains. I thank God.’
The next patient was similarly grateful to the Nigeria Air Force. Gambo Bale spoke in Hausa ‘ I feel great. I thank God. my private part was swollen. I was always urinating unnecessarily amidst pains. But I feel better now, I thank all of you greatly.’
As the Air Force surgeons busy themselves in the operating theatre of the 105 composite group in Maiduguri, many IDPs hope other organisations will emulate the Air force’s humanitarian gesture.
