The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has strengthened grassroots disaster preparedness through empowering the National Youths Service Corps Emergency Management Vanguards (EMVs) with enhanced knowledge and skills in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
In a Sunday statement on the agency’s official X handle, the NEMA Enugu Operations Office conducted a “Training of Trainers” programme for NYSC–EMVs at Aninri Local Government Council, Aninri Local Government Area, on Friday.
According to the statement, the initiative aligns with the vision of the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, to deepen community engagement and promote a culture of disaster preparedness and safety across the country.
During the training, participants were taken through key topics including NEMA’s mandate and activities in prevention, mitigation, and preparedness; prevalent disasters in the South-East zone; the roles of EMVs in disaster risk management; basic first aid; fire safety management; and interactive practical sessions.
