The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mustafa Habib says the agency is planning to partner with State Governments and other national and sub national actors to convene a national workshop on the mitigation of recurring incidences of boat accidents in the riverine communities.

He said this during a condolence visit to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on the recent boat mishap that killed more than 30 persons in Adamawa state.

Adamawa and Taraba states have had different incidents of boat mishaps which claimed more than three hundred lives during this year’s wet season.

The two states also had unpleasant experiences of flooding that ravaged many rural communities, causing deaths and destroying property worth millions of Naira, including farm produce.

These incidents are now a threat to food security in the states and the country.

The Director General of NEMA, Habib Ahmed visited Adamawa state to commiserate with the government and people of the State over the recent loss of lives in boat mishaps and flood incidents

The NEMA DG also announced plans of the agency to convene a national workshop to mitigate the recurring incidences of boat accidents.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, used the forum to call on the federal government to build a buffer dam in Dasin Hausa community of Adamawa State to help prevent recurring floods in the state

The Governor told the visiting delegation that the State plans to build two more new warehouses in addition to the one currently under construction inside the Government House, Yola.

Mr Fintiri expressed gratitude to NEMA for its prompt response to emergency situations in the state, and committed to support Federal Government in the task of making the country wax stronger.

Highlight of the visit was presentation of some gifts to Governor Umaru Fintiri by the DG NEMA.
