The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has formally inaugurated and inducted its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), marking a major step in strengthening transparency, accountability and ethical governance across the Fund’s operations.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, in his opening and welcome address, reaffirmed Management’s commitment to integrity-driven systems, strong internal controls and zero tolerance for corrupt practices in the discharge of NELFUND’s mandate.
The ceremony was attended by the Executive Director, Operations, Mr. Mustapha Iyal, Directors, Heads of Units and staff from relevant supporting departments.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Honourable Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, commended NELFUND’s Management and staff for the successful establishment of the ACTU. He described the Unit as a vital internal mechanism for identifying systemic gaps, promoting ethical standards and enhancing compliance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Dr. Aliyu emphasized that the ACTU is designed to complement Management’s efforts rather than replace them, and stressed the need for sustained institutional support to enable the Unit to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
The inauguration of the ACTU underscores NELFUND’s resolve to deliver equitable access to education financing while upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency and public trust.
Management has therefore urged all staff to give full cooperation to the ACTU and to continue performing their duties with diligence, professionalism and ethical responsibility.
