NCAA Threatens Sanctions Over Denied Boarding, Deportation Of Nigerians

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has raised concerns over a growing trend where airlines sell tickets to Nigerian passengers, only to deny them entry at transit points and deport them back home.

These incidents, often linked to visa or travel restrictions, cause undue hardship and damage the reputation of the aviation sector.

In a statement, the Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs at the NCAA, Michael Achimugu, emphasised that airlines must ensure passengers are fully informed of any visa restrictions or entry requirements before departure.

He made reference to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023 (Part 19.21.1.1), which mandates airlines to verify passengers’ eligibility before issuing tickets or allowing boarding.

Mr Achimugu further shared that the NCAA will no longer tolerate such practices. Effective immediately, any airline found guilty will face regulatory action, including fines, suspension of flight operations, or other necessary penalties.

He reaffirmed that all international airlines operating in Nigeria must comply to uphold professionalism and protect Nigerian travelers.
