The Executive Vice chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI Prof Mohammad Haruna Haruna has launched and distributed 3,000 units of NASENI Atmosphere Save 80 Efficient cook stove.
The save-energy stoves will be distributed to 3,000 women, internally displaced persons, and flood victims.

Mr Haruna stated that with consideration to Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contribution targets for emission reduction by 2030, the use of energy-efficient cooking stoves will provide a very high potential for emission reduction.
The energy stoves was jointly designed by NASENI and a German
manufacturer to reduce harmful emissions, desertification and save the climates.
90% of Nigerian household in rural areas still use firewood, charcoal and kerosene as their primary means of cooking despite the health hazards and negative impacts these have on the environment.
A report by the WHO estimates that over 98,000 Nigerian women die annually from the use of firewood.
A woman cooks breakfast, lunch, dinner with firewood is compared to a person smoking between 3 and 20 packets of cigarettes a day.
NASENI has decided to intervene by partnering with a German manufacturer, Atmosphere to come up with a solution. It is in form of an efficient cook stove to promote affordable fast and reliable
energy in Nigeria.
NASENI and its German manufacturer are to identify more production capacity areas within the next three years in Nigeria. The target
is to produce 1 million native stoves per year and 7 million by 2030.
