The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has praised President Bola Tinubu for his recent directive aimed at lowering the cost of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage, describing it as a timely relief for Nigerian Muslims planning to perform the sacred journey.

In a statement, Fatima Sanda Usara, NAHCON’s Deputy Director, Information and Publication, said the initiative reflects a government that prioritizes the concerns of its citizens.

“The President’s instruction to review Hajj fares downward shows a government that listens and responds to the people’s concerns. It also reflects genuine empathy for the financial strain faced by many Muslims who dream of performing the sacred pilgrimage,” the statement noted.

NAHCON further commended the government’s call for pilgrims and State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards to take advantage of the current appreciation of the Naira by making early remittances.

“The directive and recommendation for early remittances show a deep understanding of both NAHCON’s operational challenges and the economic realities of our pilgrims. It is another clear example of a responsive and people-focused administration that steps in with practical solutions, especially to the Commission,” Usara added.

The statement emphasised that the President’s directive reinforces his continued support for improving Hajj management in Nigeria, making the pilgrimage more affordable, transparent, and well-coordinated.

NAHCON assured that it would work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a successful and rewarding 2026 Hajj for Nigerian pilgrims. The commission also urged intending pilgrims to await the disclosure of the new fare and to make payments accordingly.
