Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe gave an address on national television, but contrary to expectation, he did not announce he would be resigning.
Instead, the 93-year old said he would preside over the ruling ZANU PF’s congress next month, even though the party had removed him as its leader.
Mugabe was removed earlier on Sunday as the president of the ruling ZANU-PF and given until noon on Monday to step down as President or face impeachment.
Ironically, whom he sacked as Vice President is his replacement to head ZANU-PF.
And in scenes unthinkable just a week ago, the announcement was met by cheers from the 200 delegates packed into ZANU-PF’s Harare headquarters.
