More than 25 officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission are receiving medical treatment, following an attack which occurred during the supplementary elections held in Rivers state.
According to INEC, its officials were attacked and wounded by thugs shortly after the election results were announced in Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile, INEC justified its decision to announce the Etche election results in Port Harcourt.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aniedi Ikoiwak explained that after collating the result in Etche by 2 a.m., the returning officer needed to consult a relevant section of the law, to be able to declare the result.
The returning officer for Etche/Omuma federal constituency had declared the result by a simple majority in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
