Military says 36 distressed calls received during invasion of Plateau communites The Nigerian military authorities have admitted that they received 36 distress calls during the invasion of several communities in Plateau by armed gangs. Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba disclosed that more than 100 armed militants suspected to be mercenaries carried out the attacks from multiple fronts. He said the militants unleashed terror on the villagers before arrival of troops. The people of Plateau State continue to grapple with the devastation caused by the recent attacks in several communities in the state. Another threat of an impending attack has made them nervous. There are several accounts of the recent attacks that have claimed the lives of at least 115 people, according to state authorities. The military authorities provide their own account of the incident during this news conference at the defense headquarters in Abuja. He also identifies variables that contribute to security difficulties in states in the country's north central area. Aside from the warning, there are signs that military authorities are shifting tactics. Persistent killings on the Plateau have harmed not only security but also the state's growth. Attempts to bring offenders to justice have had limited success.
