The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed that a fire at Bariga Market on Wednesday destroyed 26 key-clamp shops, reported that no lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained in the incident.
According to LASEMA, emergency responders acted swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the market, following a distress call it received in the early hours of Wednesday.
The agency provided an update on the incident in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, made available to TVC.
The statement reads, “Following a distress alert at 0405hrs, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from its Onipanu Base, Onipanu.
INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: Upon arrival at 0425 hours at the incident scene, it was observed that some key-clamp shops at Bariga market were engulfed by fire.
CAUSE OF INCIDENT: The cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained. Further information received at the incident scene revealed that the fire started from one of the shops and quickly spread to other shops because the key-klamp shops were supported and partitioned by wooden frameworks.
