The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 2026 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon Race, taking place on Saturday.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner of Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, cited by TVC News on Thursday, the diversion is aimed at preventing traffic gridlock and ensuring minimal disruption to motorists during the 11th edition of the sporting activity.

The statement revealed that the marathon, which consists of a 42 and 10 kilometre race, will take place simultaneously using the Ahmadu Bello, the stretch of the Coastal, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Akin Adesola, Bishop Oluwole, Sanusi Fafunwa, and Durosimi Etti roads.

According to the statement, the First, 42 kilometre race will commence at AhmaduBello (By MRS Gas Station) route and run through the entire stretch of the Coastal Road, which is the end point of the race.

The Second, 10-kilometre race, will cover Durosimi Etti(Lekki Phase 1), the starting point and run through OzumbaMbadiwe to Bishop Oluwole to Akin Adesola and SanusiFafunwa, which is the end point.

In line with the traffic management plan, all affected adjoining Roads, Junctions and Intersections along race one and two will be blocked from 12.00 am to 12.30 pm on Saturday, 14th February, 2026. They will be opened intermittently to Motorists as the race progresses.

All affected adjoining roads will be manned by the personnel of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies to prevent unauthorised road users’ access to the main race corridor.

Osiyemi reassures Lagosians that Traffic Management Officials will be strategically positioned to help motorists navigate their journeys.

He also urged the public to plan their trips accordingly by using alternative routes and other modes of transportation.

Osiyemi appealed to motorists for patience, noting that the partial closures are essential components of a broader traffic management plan designed to ensure the seamless and successful conduct of the marathon.
