The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Nigerians to remain calm and united, insisting that the country will overcome its present challenges despite what it described as attempts by the opposition to heighten national anxiety.
In a strongly worded statement titled “The Storm Will Break – The Saboteurs Will Fail,” the party said recent tensions were being amplified by “a desperate and unpatriotic opposition,” but maintained that the situation was temporary.
The chapter said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had taken decisive steps to stabilise the country, including the declaration of a State of Emergency on Security and the approval of an additional 20,000 police recruits, bringing the total newly recruited personnel under his administration to 50,000.
“These are not cosmetic gestures. These are strategic, far-reaching actions by a President who refuses to surrender one inch of Nigerian territory to terrorists or their political sponsors,” the statement read.
The party accused the opposition of creating panic and seeking to undermine national security, alleging that recent incidents had exposed those “benefiting from instability.”
It said security agencies were making progress through rescue operations, the dismantling of hostile networks and better cooperation from communities.
The Lagos APC further criticised what it termed a new tactic by the opposition to “seek sympathy abroad” through petitions and reports, saying Nigeria’s sovereignty was not up for negotiation.
On current economic difficulties, the party said the hardship was a temporary consequence of reforms aimed at dismantling entrenched interests such as subsidy and foreign exchange cartels.
“The pain Nigerians are experiencing today is the pain of birth, not the pain of death. The reforms are already working,” it added, citing growth in agriculture, rising revenues and renewed investor confidence.
Reassuring citizens, the Lagos APC said the country would emerge stronger.
“This too shall pass. The saboteurs will fail. Nigeria will rise stronger than ever,” the statement concluded.
