The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed comments by the newly elected factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bello Mohammed Turaki, describing his vow to “return power to Nigerians” as hollow and unserious.
In a strongly worded statement on Tuesday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, said Turaki lacked the legitimacy and internal support required to speak for what he called a “broken, scattered, leaderless party.”
Oladejo said it was “dishonest” for the PDP chieftain to project himself as a unifying figure when the opposition party remained riddled with factions, court battles and competing claims to leadership.
“Before he dreams of returning power to Nigerians, he should first seek legitimacy from his own party members and leaders. A man who cannot unite his own divided platform cannot unite a country,” the statement read.
Oladejo argued that the PDP had already been rejected by Nigerians at the polls in 2015, 2019 and 2023, insisting that the electorate had long “reclaimed power” by voting the opposition out.
He said the PDP’s years in office were marked by mismanagement, corruption, oil theft, weakened security structures and a depleted treasury—failures he claimed disqualified the party from making fresh promises of national leadership.
“How can a party drowning in internal disputes talk about saving Nigeria?” Oladejo asked, adding that Turaki should focus on restoring unity, discipline and credibility within the PDP rather than issuing “beautifully wrapped emptiness.”
Contrasting both parties, the Lagos APC spokesman said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was focused on stabilising the economy, driving reforms, executing infrastructure renewal and expanding investments, while accusing the PDP of engaging in “fantasy politics.”
Oladejo concluded that Turaki must first “earn legitimacy within his own party” before attempting to lecture Nigerians on governance, insisting that “a factional chairman cannot speak for a fragmented party.”
The Lagos APC reaffirmed its commitment to stability, reforms and democratic consolidation under the Tinubu administration.
