The Kebbi State Police Command has provided an update on the tragic incident that occurred on March 13, 2026, in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, which led to the death of Sufiyanu Garba and the abduction of his wife.
In a Wednesday statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bashir Usman, the Command strongly condemned the heinous act and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
While acting on credible intelligence and technical analysis, the Police arrested ten suspects in connection with the case and rescued the abducted victim, Zainab Mohammad, who has been safely reunited with her family.
Her rescue was made possible through a well-coordinated operation by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) in collaboration with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation.
The SCID, while leveraging on credible intelligence and technical support, arrested Zakariya Abubakar Diggi, Joseph Dahali Wanda, Sanda Alhaji, Mamman Abubakar Manu, Aisha Manu, Saudatu Abubakar, Abubakar Muhammad, Betuwa Muhammad, Abdullahi Umaru, and Ja’i Garba.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Zakariya Abubakar Diggi and Joseph Dahali Wanda are SIM registration agents who allegedly specialised in the fraudulent registration of SIM cards using proxy subscriber information.
These SIM cards were reportedly used by the kidnappers to negotiate a ransom. The remaining suspects are being investigated for their various roles in the crime, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, commended the professionalism and dedication of the operatives, assuring the public that the case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command reiterated that robust measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence of such incidents and expressed appreciation for the continued support and cooperation of the public.
Residents were also urged to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
