The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes during plenary.

The session was attended by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, whose appointment to the party’s top position in July had created the ministerial vacancy Doro now fills.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State under the current administration, used the opportunity to present his plans for developing a more effective and inclusive humanitarian system in Nigeria.

He pledged to build a framework that would be “inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence.”

After responding to a few questions from lawmakers, the senators expressed satisfaction with his qualifications and experience, after which he was asked to “take a bow and leave.”

President Bola Tinubu had earlier written to the Senate requesting Doro’s screening and confirmation in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The letter, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was referred to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration.

The correspondence from the Presidency was received just 24 hours after President Tinubu announced Doro’s nomination, signaling his intention to promptly fill the ministerial position vacated by Prof. Yilwatda, who previously served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before assuming his role as APC National Chairman.
