Participants at a one-day youth summit held in Jigawa State have collectively called for the integration of young people in the decision-making process, policy development, community development initiatives, and governance structures.

This call to action emphasizes the crucial role that youths play in shaping the future and acknowledges their potential as tomorrow’s leaders.

Discussion on how best to ensure proper participation and inclusion of meaningful adolescent Youths engagement in decision making dominated the 2024 adolescent Youths summit organised by A360 project in Jigawa State.

The MAYE summit, a key initiative aimed at fostering meaningful engagement between adolescents, youth, and adults, shines a light on the vital contributions of youth in driving community development, economic progress, and sustainability, with a special emphasis on their impact in boosting adolescent Youths engagement.

The Jigawa State commissioner of information, youth, sports and culture, Sagir Musa Ahmad, who inaugurated the youth championship, urged the participants to commit themselves to championing the positive health outcomes and developmental progress for Youths and adolescents.

According to the adolescent A360 lead project Nigeria, Rahama Abdulkarim, MAYE Summit is a key initiative aimed at fostering meaningful engagement between adolescents, youth, and adults.

By disseminating the A360’s Meaningful Adolescent Youth Engagement strategy and developing a MAYE alignment charter, the participants of the summit believe that their capacity has been built.

The summit brought together youth-led organisations, networks, policymakers, and relevant stakeholders with a view to establishing a strong youth network and inaugurating youth champions, and formulating a state-based youth advisory committee.
