Police in Jigawa State say they have arrested several suspected drug barons and recovered over 5,000 pieces of illicit drugs in a week-long crackdown targeting criminals across the State.
The operation, which spanned from 27 July to 2 August, led to the arrest of dozens of suspects involved in drug trafficking, vandalism, burglary, motorcycle theft, and tricycle snatching.
Key seizures include 5,283 pieces of banned drugs, wraps of cannabis, a stolen motorcycle and tricycle, vandalised government cables, three Android phones, and various dangerous weapons.
According to the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, the arrests were made through coordinated intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations, and swift responses to distress calls in Dutse, Kazaure, Birnin Kudu, Ringim, Taura, Hadejia, Gujungu, and Kiyawa.
Some suspects, particularly those linked to drug offences, will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution.
CP Dahiru praised the dedication of his officers and warned drug traffickers and criminal gangs to steer clear of Jigawa or face what he described as the “full weight of the law”.
The Jigawa State Police Command says it remains committed to ensuring public safety and urges residents to report suspicious activity to help in the ongoing fight against crime.
The police Public Relation Officer SP Lawan Shisu Adam said Officers carried out targeted raids, intelligence-led patrols, and rapid response actions in Dutse, Birnin Kudu, Kazaure, Ringim, Hadejia, Taura and Kiyawa.
Among the key arrests:
Birnin Kudu: Two men were held after they were found with vandalised government cables.
Kazaure: Three suspected burglars were caught after allegedly breaking into homes. Police recovered stolen Android phones.
Dutse: Seven suspects were detained in raids on drug hotspots. Officers recovered cannabis, Exol and D5 tablets, and sharp weapons.
Ringim: A suspected drug dealer was arrested at Beguwa market with cannabis, tramadol, diazepam and over 800 pills of Exol.
Gujungu: A stolen red Boxer motorcycle was recovered and one suspect arrested.
Hadejia: Police seized more than 3,000 illicit drugs—including tramadol and rubber solution—from three suspects.
Taura: A tricycle snatched in Garki was recovered and two suspects—one male and one female—were arrested.
Kiyawa: Five suspected drug dealers were picked up in raids on black spots. Over 450 pills of banned substances were recovered.
In total, police say they seized 5,283 pills and wraps of illicit drugs, two stolen vehicles, vandalised cables, and dangerous weapons. The suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted. Some cases are expected to be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action.
Commissioner Dahiru Muhammad commended officers for their swift work and urged the public to continue supporting security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
He warned criminal elements, especially drug traffickers, to stay out of the state or face what he described as “the full weight of the law”.
