Preparations are underway for the start of a new Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, season in January 2023.

With the new sponsor already lined up, chairman of the interim management committee, IMC made this known in an exclusive interview with TVC news in Abuja

Chairman of the interim management committee, Olugbenga Elegbeleye has confirmed that the 2022-2023 Nigerian Professional Football League season will be sponsored.

A kick of date for the new season has been announced and Elegbeleye told TVC news exclusively that a new sponsor will be introduced next week.

The League boss is not happy with the quality of Nigeria’s domestic football but said plans are in the orphing to resuscitate the league by creating and sustaining standards.

According to Elegbeleye, this is not easy and its very challenging, especially because the Nigerian league is not very marketable based on previous activities and the way sponsors perceive the league; they do not consider our league as lucrative enough to invest their money.

“Every investor will want a return on investment but we have a league that is not on TV, we have the Kenyan league on television, Ethiopia league on television, South African league on television, we have many African leagues on Television but the Nigerian premier league is not anywhere on television.

To achieve this mandate, the entire management committee and all the stakeholders will have to agree to a suitable format before the
league resumes on 8th of January 2023.
