The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, visited Benue State following attacks that left scores of people dead, and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Accompanied by senior police officers — including the Deputy Inspector General in charge of Operations, DIG Yakubu Kwazhi; the Deputy Inspector General in charge of Logistics and Supply, DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat; AIG Zone 4, Zachariah Fera; and Commissioner of Police, SIS, Abayomi Shogunle — the IGP met Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia at Government House in Makurdi. He condemned the attacks as “senseless” and “acts of terrorism”, and assured the Governor of the force’s resolve to tackle insecurity in the state.
The IGP also visited the community of Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area alongside Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa. There, he met community leaders and pledged additional resources to help protect the area.
Egbetokun announced the deployment of additional tactical teams to Benue and appointed DIG Kwazhi Yakubu to oversee operations on the ground, to help restore peace and stability.
During a meeting with officers at the Benue Police Command headquarters in Makurdi, the IGP assured them of improved welfare and logistical support to aid their operations.
The Inspector General reaffirmed the force’s resolve — in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policy — to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice and to restore peace in all affected communities.
