IDP’s Express Mixed Feelings On New Year In Plateau

Internally Displaced Persons in Mangu Local Government of Plateau State are not particularly excited about the celebration of new year as the still grieve the loss of lives, livelihood, and property flooding the deadly  Christmas eve attacks.

Some of the displaced persons  spoke to TVC News when they attended the new year church service in one of the IDP camps in the area.

They want the federal government to expedite action in returning them to their communities.

Sounds of drums, songs and dances at a church service held to commemorate the new year at the Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Mangu Local Government of Plateau State.

These IDPs are thankful to have survived despite targeted attacks in 2023 that led to the death of more than 200 locals from their communities and the destruction of their property and farmlands.

In his sermon, the clergy urged the congregants not to despair but remain hopeful that the new year will bring better fortunes.

Some of the Women are busy cooking, they have been given the responsibility of preparing meals for those seeking refuge in this camp.

The frightened people here still recall how the attacks struck their community and how the incident has negatively affected their fortunes.

They are pleased with the  efforts of President Bola Tinubu in restoring normalcy to the troubled community and want actions to be expedited.

Alphia Friday is a mother of four who has found a new home with her children in this IDP camp.

Her husband was murdered in cold blood in wake of the crises in May 2023.

She now depends on relief items to fend for her children who have been out of school for over six months.
