A new Lawmaker, Ibrahim Amos Yohanna has been Sworn in as Senator representing Adamawa north Senatorial District in Adamawa State, he will replace Senator Elisha Abbo whose election was nullified recently by a court of appeal.
Senator Yohanna was sworn in at the beginning of Wednesday’s plenary, in a brief ceremony performed by the clerk of the National Assembly.
The new representative of Adamawa North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate challenged the victory of Elisha Abbo at the polls and eventually got a favourable judgement from the court that ordered INEC to recognise him as the winner of the election and replaces Elisha Abbo in the Senate.
This is the outcome of a judgment delivered on Monday, where the court affirmed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Amos Yohanna, as the winner of the senatorial election.
Senator Yohanna also lodged a petition, at the election tribunal in Yola, challenging the legitimacy of Senator Abbo’s election victory, insisting that it wasn’t a reflection or lawful votes cast.
Some of the contentions raised were concerns of over-voting at various polling units, false entries, alterations, and cancellations of votes at several polling locations, among other critical issues.
