Hurricane Dorian is currently pummeling the Abaco and Grand Bahama Islands, where residents say their homes have been flooded and roofs blown away.
Declared a category five storm, Dorian has sustained winds of up to 180 miles per hour.
The hurricane is moving slowly westwards, creeping towards the U.S., and may hit areas of the eastern U.S. seaboard.
The states of Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina have all declared states of emergency.
Hurricanes, which vary in strength from category one to five, tend to get stronger as they move over warm waters like those off the coast of Florida.
On Sunday, a new tropical storm formed southwest of Mexico and is expected to become a hurricane on Monday.
