Heavily armed bandits invade Zamfara community, kill unspecified number of persons

Heavily armed Bandits have killed unspecified number of persons in Tofa community in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state.

Saveral bandits according to the police were also killed and many escaped to the forest with gunshot wounds.

The police said one of its personnel paid the supreme prize during gun battle with the criminals that lasted for hours.

A press statement from the police in Zamfara says the armed bandits Invaded the communities Saturday night with sophisticated weapons shooting sporadically leading to the death of many locals.

He adds that combine Police Team engaged the criminals on their way to Samawa village after the first attack on Tofa community which the troops were not alerted on time.

” Combined Police Tactical operatives were not alerted until after they (Bandits) might have finished their onslaught on Tofa Community, where yet to be ascertained number of villagers were killed”

“However, as the bandits left Tofa on their way to Samawa village for similar attack, Police Tactical operatives Stationed at Samawa village were quickly alerted where they mobilzed and engaged the assailants to a serious gun battle that lasted for hours.

As a result of the encounter, unspecified number of bandits were fatally injured, while others escaped with possible gun shot wounds. No loss of life from the community in Samawa.”

He However says the police Repel attack on Samawa Village that led to the death of its personnel during gun duel.

Police authorities in the state condoles with the family of the deceased and directed the immediate deployment of additional troops to the affected villages to complement the ongoing efforts of safeguarding the lives and properties of the citizens.

Discreet investigation according to the police is ongoing to fish out the perpetrators of the crime for justice to take its course.

“While urging communities to be quick in alerting security operatives on movement of criminal elements to enable them respond, the command assured residents that discreet investigation that will fish out the perpetrators of this bizarre crime for justice to take its course in ongoing” the police said.
