Group calls for more effort to enhance Security in Nigeria

As Nigerians look forward to 2023 general elections, there is growing concern that insecurity may undermine the process.

This fear was expressed at the second edition of Pinch Award for excellence held in Lagos.

75 days to the 2023 general election, some Nigerians have expressed fears that the election might not hold due to the security challenges in some parts of the country, coupled with the attack on some INEC offices.

This is a forum comprising industry players from different sectors.

The major talking point is 2023 general election, securing the Nigerian space.

At the panel session, the respondents say the failure of political leaders to provide democratic dividend has led to an increase in poverty, inequality, and ethno-religious division.

They argue the voters are likely to be afraid to come out.

The forum on the sideline awards the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (Lasema) as the best agency in the country due to their prompt response to Emergency calls.

The issue of insecurity and the growing number of attacks on the facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission by unknown persons that has seen at the last count over 30 attacks leading to the loss of Materials, equipment and even personnel.

The Leadership of the Election Management Body has also restated its commitment to the peaceful and orderly conduct of the 2023 Elections despite the challenges.

The nation already faces daunting challenges to its Security and that of the 2023 Elections including Banditry, Terrorism and Other sundry crimes including a growing threat from so called unknown gunmen in the South East.

These Challenges has made observers edgy about what will happen as the election approaches and the campaigning becomes more competitive and the rhetoric become louder.

This forum is another platform to remind all Nigerians of the need to be more conscious of the Security of lives and property around them.
