The 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence has been observed in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital with a sensitization walk on the need for people to report such cases.
It’s a sensitization walk at polo community by human rights activists, civil society groups, lawyers and government officials.
They are out to create awareness on the need to break the culture of silence.
The Center for democracy and development leads the walk.
According to the state ministry for women affairs and social development, women and girls are the worst hit by violence due to conflict caused by insurgency.
But the national human rights commission says, it is dealing decisively with perpetrators of such heinous act.
This theme for this year’s commemoration is “Unite: invest to prevent violence against women and girls ” And it calls for the prevention and eradication of violence against women and girls.
For a total elimination of Gender Based Violence, everyone has a role to play in curbing the menace so as to have a free and better society.
