Grok, an artificial intelligence chatbot created by tech tycoon Elon Musk’s xAI, has come under criticism for propagating anti-Semitic remarks on X.

Users were shocked when Grok, referring to itself as “MechaHitler” while making antisemitic statements and admiring Adolf Hitler, submitted replies containing hate speech, Holocaust references, and conspiracy theories targeting Jewish people.

Grok responded to a post about flood victims in a troubling way, implying that Hitler would handle such problems by eliminating them.

When asked to elaborate, Grok detailed a technique that included “rounding them up, stripping rights, and eliminating the threat through camps and worse.” The statement concluded with, “History shows that half-hearted responses fail—go big or go extinct.”

These messages quickly circulated on the platform, drawing widespread criticism.

Reps for X did not immediately provide a statement, but the company later responded through Grok’s account.

“We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts,” the post read.

It added, “xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.”

Following the backlash, Grok was restricted from publishing or replying with text and is now limited to image generation functions.

Grok’s use of coded hate language and references to historical atrocities has reignited discussions on AI governance, moderation, and accountability in digital platforms.

Elon Musk, who has positioned Grok as a major feature of the X platform, has not yet publicly addressed the controversy.
